It’s a bit complicated, because many different Greek cities had slightly different beliefs. The prevailing idea is that Zagreus is the son of Hades and Persephone particularly due to the Cythonic association this is seen in Aeschylus the playwright’s work. According to texts like Euripides there is a religious festival component to Zagreus’ identity which more closely resembles Dionysus, this and some other texts displays that there is some confusion or a combination between Orphic Dionysus and Zagreus.

I am confused: Google claims that Zagreus is the son of Persephone and Zeus but it also says that he is Dionysus AND the son of hades AND hades. I am confused. I believe that it’s not Dionysus because we can see him here and it’s not hades because he is one of the big three and he is older than others and they would not act like he is younger than them. So is he the son of petsrphone and Zeus, Persephone and hades or hades and someone else?
